Why does Finanzamt not provide information in English or other official languages of the EU to those who call to ask about administrative issues regarding their presence/residency in Germany (eg EU citizens having NGOs and companies registered in Germany) ?

We are not legally obliged to provide communication, information or help in any other languages but German, so we don’t. There are some people in the office that speak other languages (like Arabic, Russian, etc) – so if people come in the office or contact us online, we can help them in languages other than German – but, yes, we really just operate in German only. We’re not breaking the law, though.

Answered by: Finanzamt employee (they actually didn’t speak any English, so we had a German colleague call them)
